Love at First Sight: The 75th Anniversary Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra in Summer Blue
It was just a matter of time…
Some watches you admire. Others you respect for their engineering. But every once in a while, a watch comes along that instantly captures your heart. For me, that watch was the 75th Anniversary Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra in Summer Blue.
Several years ago, I attended a local @sd_chrono get-together and met a fellow San Diego watch fiend wearing an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra with a blue dial and a grey rubber strap. That was my first real encounter with the model — and it made an impression. I was struck not just by the dial color, but by the “teak” dial pattern, which Omega says is inspired by the wooden decks of luxury sailboats. It added texture and depth, giving the watch a unique identity. The 41mm case size also stood out — perfectly balanced on my 8″ wrist, neither too large nor too small. From that moment, I knew I needed one.
So when Omega released the 75th Anniversary edition in Summer Blue — a limited production model — I knew this was the one to have. It built on everything I loved about the original, but added a fresh, celebratory tone and unique blue color that made it feel truly special.
And from the moment I saw it, I knew it belonged in my collection. The dial — a radiant gradient that deepens from sky to sea — isn’t just beautiful, it’s transportive. Omega’s intention with this design was to evoke summer light, open water, and 75 years of Omega’s maritime legacy, all wrapped in a clean, modern design that still nods to tradition. To me, it was just beautiful.
But it wasn’t just the aesthetics that pulled me in. As a collector, I take a deliberate approach. My goal is to curate a small, thoughtful collection that spans different decades, brands, complications, and design styles — time-only, date, day-date, chronographs — each piece with a role to play. This approach helps keep the collection fresh and varied, with every watch offering something distinct. It keeps things interesting — for me — and ensures I never feel like I’m rotating through versions of the same thing.
Until now, there were two gaps I had yet to fill: I didn’t own a single Omega, and I didn’t have a blue-dial watch. Not one. With #BlueWatchMonday popping up more and more across the community, I was unable to play in that game. This Seamaster solved this by killing two birds with one stone.
It’s versatile, wearable, and rich in meaning. The Summer Blue dial is striking without being loud. While this model doesn’t have a display caseback, I genuinely don’t miss it. The engraved trident motif on the rear is beautifully done and gives the watch a commemorative, almost medallion-like quality that I really appreciate. Another standout feature — and one that adds to the variety in my collection — is the blue rubber strap. It’s a light sky-blue tone that feels playful and refined all at once, making it the perfect summertime companion.
I didn’t just fall for this watch. It filled multiple places in my collection and gave me a reason to wear blue every Monday — and many other days, too.
